A Natural Way of Healing

Moxibustion (灸疗)

Original Moxa

Original Moxa

The word “acupuncture” in Chinese actually stands for “needle” and “moxibustion”.  Therefore, moxibustion or “moxa” is often used in conjunction with needles. It consists in burning of dried Chinese mugwort on acupoints. It is often rolled into a cigar-shaped herbal stick. Moxa sticks are then lit and held over acupuncture points.  The radiant heat produced has the effect of stimulating the point. It can warm the meridian, invigorate the blood, and stimulate the flow of Qi.

Moxibustion is also well known for treating breech presentation.  To learn more in detail… http://www.pregnancy.com.au/birth-choices/breech-birth/moxibustion-for-breech-presentation.shtml

“Smokeless Moxa” is widely used in the West. It is a rod of charcoal impregnated with moxa. As the name suggests, it produces much less smoke, making it more suitable for use in the clinic and at home.
